He just kept on running. Who needs thoughts when you have functioning legs? More than can be said for his friend who was almost an unwilling meatshield. He swerved to avoid the constant screams and howls, unconsciously throwing himself away from the location of the noises. He didn't even fathom stopping or slowing down, for Eddie LaMarche was one of the few employees of RenatUCorp who shot his legs quicker than his mouth. After setting out with the sole objective of revtialising those in death, the company only had so long before something went horribly wrong. Almost a cliché, Eddie thought to himself. But in this life, there is no time for clichés. Not now. Not when there is a legion of post-deceased screaming pissboxes sprinting after me. Eddie almost fainted in relief as he saw was a complex of derelict apartments.
"Oh thank you, merciful God." he panted to himself.
While slowing his pace slightly, he jumped into a shadowed area and began weaving his way through the columns of concrete in an attempt to lose them. Climbing up a small flight of stairs while hushing his breathing, Eddie glanced out from behind the wall he had concealed himself behind. What appeared to be hundreds of infected bolted past the wall, a few of them stopping to gnaw on the jugulars of a few passers-by. Eddie pulled his head back into the darkness immediately. At this point he had almost stopped breathing completely to silence himself. A footstep approached the small stairs. Followed by another, and another. Eddie silently shuffled around to the other side of the wall, and mentally thanked Christ again. The footsteps increased in pace slightly, and were accompanied by a low growling sound. Suffocating himself further, the determined survivor held his ground, as if locked in a psychological battle with fear, but was careful not to trouble logic. The infected slowed its growling and Eddie's heart almost leapt out of his body in relief as the footsteps drew back in on themselves and the potential assailant re-joined the mob.
After narrowly surviving the event, Eddie's mind instantly shot to his family. His daughter Cindy and his wife Keira. Without another thought, the man jumped up from the apartment complex floor and ran out, after having heard the absence of screams and footsteps. His house was not far; about a 5 minute walk from there to the RenatUCorp building but in his worried haste, it took him about a minute. After jumping his fence to arrive at his back door, he took out his keys and flipped through them to find the correct one. Inserting it and quickly pushing himself in, he looked back once to see the alleys and roads in the distance now teeming with hyper-aggressive hordes. He ran through the kitchen and into the living room, shouting 'Keira!' and 'Cindy!' as he ran. He swung around the staircase beam and jogged up the staircase. His eyes widened and his heart sank as he saw blood trailing into the bathroom.
"Oh shit. Cindy! Keira!"
He hammered on the doors repeatedley and stopped to hear the most horrific, petrifying sound he had ever heard in his life.
Absolutely nothing.
